Colorado AFTAC Alumni Association
Founded in 1987
Colorado AFTAC Alumni Association Chapter Information:
The original concept of the Colorado Chapter identified by its founder, Ben Vlassick in 1987 was:
“To establish a single point of contact for Colorado retired and ex-AFTAC personnel, organize willing participants, schedule occasional gatherings and distribute an annual Newsletter.”
The annual dues are $5 per year – the proceeds help the organization to keep going.
Meetings are generally held in February and September.
The meetings are preceded by a breakfast.
An annual Fall/Veterans Day dinner is held in November.
An annual picnic is held in the late Spring or early Summer.
AFTAC Alumni Association History:
On March 12, 1985, the AFTAC Commander, Colonel James R. Clapper invited a group of retired and active duty AFTAC’ers to meet with him. He requested that they form an AFTAC Alumni Association (AFTACAA). It was established at that time, a Board of Directors was elected and it was chartered in 1986.
This association was established to provide a forum for members wishing to maintain a relationship with AFTAC and its people, both active duty and retired. The membership is open to all those who serve and who have served with the mission of this organization and its field detachments since its inception. This is to include all ancillary support venues such as Security Police, Administrative, Personnel and Civilians.
The Alumni Association is composed of 3 independent Organizations.
The Florida Association formed in 1986.
The Colorado Chapter formed in 1987.
The California Chapter formed in 1999.
