  1. Call to Order
    Secretary Ken Behrens noted that a quorum of 9 members was present, 4 of which were elected officers. President Sam Wittner called to order the meeting of the Radops of El Jebel at 1900 hours May 22nd, 2023, with all officers present. Ken Jones, Past Potentate was excused. Ken Behrens gave the invocation followed by the Pledge of Allegiance.
  2. Illness and Distress
    1. Patricia Marcus received an A+ from her cardiologist for her recovery.
    2. Rich Wall reported that Don Cox has lost weight but is doing fairly well. Sam Wittner said that Don had attended the Consistory Reunion and spoke with him.
  3. Approval of Minutes from last meeting
    1. Michael Marcus moved and Emit Hurdelbrink seconded that the April 24th, 2023 minutes be approved as published. Motion carried unanimously.
  4. Treasurer’s Report
    1. The Treasurer’s report is on file with the secretary.
    2. Emit Hurdelbrink moved and Michael Marcus seconded that the Treasurer’s report be accepted. Motion carried unanimously.
  5. Committee Reports
    1. Nominating:
      1. Secretary Ken Behrens reminded the nominating committee that elections will be held at the September 25th meeting and to plan accordingly.
    2. Repeater:
      1. EchoLink is running well without distortion since Emit Hurdelbrink rebuilt the Pi.
      2. Emit said that the 2m repeater is having no problems.
      3. He suggested that we check the coax this summer to see if it needs to be replaced.
      4. He said that the 70cm repeater at Heather Gardens is running well, but no one seems to using it.
        • The only problem he encountered was that teenagers were using inappropriate language on it. He informed them that is was unlawful and to stop using it in that manner. He said that we should be monitoring the frequency for this kind of activity because school is out and they may be back in the summer.
    3. Uniform and Equipment:
      1. Sam Wittner reported that the bolo ties are finished and only the strings need to be attached. The vendor said that they will be shipped this week.
  6. Unfinished Business
    1. None.
  7. New Business
    1. Emit Hurdelbrink moved and Paul Harrison seconded to reaffirm the Centennial Cone repeater site rent be paid every year by the Treasurer when he receives the invoice. Motion carried unanimously.
  8. Good of the Order
    1. Paul Harrison conveyed the thanks of Adams/Arapahoe ARES for the use of the 2m repeater when their primary was encountering severe interference.
    2. Emit Hurdelbrink will check to see if Milt Bonham’s HF rig might be used by Gilpin County EOC.
      • He suggested that we take all of Milt’s Ham equipment to a hamfest and place the funds in his name in the repeater fund and purchase a memorial brick.
    3. Chuck Noah invited all to the High Twelve meetings held monthly on the 4th Wednesday at 1115 hrs for lunch and meeting at 1200 hrs in Heather Gardens Rendezvous Restaurant.
    4. Chuck also noted that license renewal and payment on the FCC site is painful and to have a lot patience to use it.
      • It was noted that ARRL members can have ARRL fill out the forms, but one still needs to log into the FCC web site to pay the fees.
  9. Divan Representative
    1. Hoss Monsebroten said he had very little to report because no Divan meeting was held.
    2. Information about the Memorial Day parade in Commerce City will be sent via MailChimp.
    3. He said to be sure to read the Red Fez to keep updated on Shrine activities.
    4. He urged all of us to attend our Blue Lodge meetings.

Sam Wittner adjourned the meeting at 1933 hours.

Emit Hurdelbrink showed a video by Michael Martens, KB9VBR who used a window screen as a ground plane instead of radials for his antenna.
